Workstation and hip hop

I have a pc with sonar and acid, and i need to hook it up to my 2816 so i can make beats and put them into recorded songs on the workstation. Any help?

Also what would be the best way to connect the two together. Midi, "Host Connection", or just input from computer soundcard to workstation?

is that a drum machine?

i record to midi in sonar and then when i know i've got everything right (including dynamics) i record the midi to audio.
