Working with Resilient Channel

Does anyone have tips/tricks on working with resilient channel? I've started attaching it to the studs with 1 1/2" wood screws, but now I can't get the drywall screws to bite into the channel.

I'm using 1 1/2" screws into 5/8" Type X drywall. Suggestions?

Try using a different type of screw (e.g., a metal or wood screw) rather than a drywall screw. It seems the drywall screws sold to pierce metal do have a hard time penetrating the channel. Alternately you could try drilling pilot holes through the board and channel and then installing the screws.

Also, make sure you are using "fine" threaded drywall screws instead of course. It should say right there on the box.

Try this ...before putting the channel up, lay it on a 2x4, take a 16 penny nail or even a screw and a hammer, make some starter holes (which is more like a dent), maybe 5 for each channel. Your screws should go in much easier.

I only knew that becasue we made the same mistake :D

Onesnowrider... GREAT idea about the starter holes. Wish I had thought of that a long, long time ago :(

Take care and post some pictures of this project!
