Working on a metal song with a 70's vibe sound.

Much better, though the guitars still need some tweaking. They might just need to be louder at this point. You might also want to make the drum overheads a little louder, too. It's kinda weird to hear the rest of the kit so much louder when the cymbals are usually the loudest part... You can probably still EQ some of the body out of the snare, unless that's from the overheads.

Thanks for the re-post Slag. First off, I like what you've got here and I'm impressed with your ability to record the live drums and get them to sound as good as they do. The drums might need some more work, but I can't presume to advise you on how to do that. I'm a guitar player, so I'll focus on that.

I think the "70's vibe", but more like a device, might be the picking out a 'dirty' chord? I love that device, I try it a lot, but it is hard to get it to not mush up the mix. If I were producing this (who'd want that, I'm nobody), but if I was, I'd have the guitar player(s) rework that riff. I'd have one play those picked chords with a clean tone and another provide the bone-crushing root chords behind it. Or, I'd see how turning those picked dirty chord notes into a one string riff with some angry distortion (palm muted, tight n punchy during the verses) on it worked with the song. The goal here would be the magic word "dynamics."

Hope this helps. I'm still working on guitar clarity on my song. I have the original post up still, let me know what you think. It's not heavy like yours, I'm an old school rocker

Lightening mp3 mix is better... much better.

but in parts your vocals and guitars are eating each other. and it sounds strange to my cochlea

and im not sure what it is but something keeps fatigueing my ears too.

I don't at all have a grasp on wha tfrequencies things like that sit on, all i know is it just something is amiss whne i have my speakers at a certain level?

Anyone else noticing that?

Song reminds me of Beherit.... except on downers. Nice...

soo

the band likes the first mix the best so far, but with more bass drum click. The guitar lost its "atmosphere" as soon as I took out the surgical knife. I'm going to find a way to keep the "atmosphere" while keeping the drums in your face. Possibly using reverbs on several of the guitar tracks to send them further to the rear and creating a larger space. Again, thanks to everyone that checked out the mixes, i'm sure to be posting more shortly. I look forward to listening to everyone elses also.

listened up to the singing. that vocal style is totally not my thing. Song is not 70's sounding either.
Dark guitars were decent, IMHO somewhat prog influence / build-up. It grabbed your attention. Then came the vocals and bye-bye, lost me. Stop button. Maybe I've listen to too much Dream Theater :drunk: and over-critical.

I'm pretty sure the OP was looking for mix feedback.

I recommend that you not listen to closely to the band because they're not really going to know what they're talking about. Frankly, I think the guitars need more tuning, but if you want them to be more atmospheric, which seems strange for metal (but who am I to judge?), then add reverb to them after they've gone through surgery.
