"Work it Out" - hard rock hollerin' tune

"Work it Out" -

another finished tune, curious to know how THIS one translates on various systems.
might use this as a mastering go by, along with a couple of other tunes.
i already know it's a bit light in the low end, but what about the midrange?

Listening through my laptop speakers - sounds bad ass-as hell = mids - highs are good - lows are there (but you know with the speakers on laptops lows have absolutely no depth) - I'll try to play it back through my studio system later.
But it sounds very balanced :) ---- :) cool tune! :)
 
Sounds fantastic! One of the best things I've heard here.

Bass is not that light on my system 2 or 3db at most. Mids and highs sound perfectly on.

Only other comment I have is the way the vox come right in, At first I thought the file was cut, but then I listened again and I guess its the way you arranged it? I actually cant stand intros longer than a few bars so its a cool "in your face" idea that goes with the song.

Super great man, you should be very happy with this, absolutly rippin performance.

Would you share your guitar sound method, mic a live amp? amp sim? great sound.
 
Sounds very good! I hope you don't mind, but its got a good ol' Van Halen vibe. How did you process the vox? I can definitely hear double tracking, but any other "tricks" thrown in there?
 
I'd say the low end could come down just a shade, and I'd give it a bit more high mid somewhere 3-5kHz to really make it scream

I like the outro! - cool.
 
Dude... Musicianship is intoxicating. Great performances all around. Guitars have my face in a puddle at my feet. Drums are rock-solid. Vocals are powerful. Freakin' awesome performances. I listened twice, and the mix just kind of leaves me wanting more face-smashing in the upper-mids. The snare seems super thin. Kick gets lost frequently in the upper smack-region.

I think I'm gonna go listen again. Awesome, awesome rockin' tune, bro.

guitar sound, is real straightfoward on this one.

Carvin DC200K, with a duncan custom custom in bridge, direct wired to vol knob, no load
into a mesa boogie mark2b 60 watt head, driving a pair of Roland 1x12 closed back cabs with celestion greenbacks (british), close miced with a shure sm57 off the side of the cone, into a A Designs Audio MP-1 mic preamp, thru a dbx compressor, into a digital convertor, into the recorder.

thanks man.... van halen is cool, it's hard to get away from a comparison to that when you play any kind of shuffly rock riff...
the vox, was sung twice, into a AT4033, and thru the same rig as described above for the guitar tracks.
no tricks, just straight up singing...
i punch in verse by verse, so when i hit the GO button, i at least go all the way thru a verse, or chorus, or bridge.
i was more concerned with getting a vibe, than nailing a note or word or riff, so i let some of the pitch issues roll, for the sake of a more honest take.
just my idea of rock and roll. warts and all.

low end down?! heheh, you're the very first guy to say that, but you know, it really is a subjective thing, and i thought it sounded just right when i first mixed it.
i was critical about the high end mastering, i didn't want any ear fatigue, and that's why it's a bit mellow on the 3-5khz like you suggest boosting....

the drummer is a degreed dude, with lots of rock in his soul he did a great job!
i did NOT nail the drum mix, and wished i'd mixed them a lot hotter, and deeper.
but it worked for the heavy guitar mix, and vox.......
i feel the same way about the snare, in retrospect.
wont make the same mistake with the new project.

yep, it's pretty basic.

i liked the sound of the original carvin bridge, but it was microphonic at stage volume.

then i put a JB in it, and for a while, i liked that, but on a lark, i put the custom custom in it, and voila.
 
I can't find anything in the mix to fault. Sounds good to me. I'm not hearing any harshness on this end.

Very balanced mix. I really enjoyed listening to this. Love the little guitar riffs here and there, and great vocal style! Nice cheeky triplet feel drum fill before the solo. ;)

The tune is damn good!
I thought the EQing sounded all right. The lead guitar licks tend to be a bit louder than the rest. Not too fond of the drum sound, it lacks the right thump IMHO.
But, great performance nonetheless!
 
Oooh yea, I'm likin' the hollerin':D! Double oooh yea, there's that legendary Gonzo-guitar-tone :D! Damn it, I think you're just rubbin' it in now! :eek:. Mesa Boogie and Vintage 30 right? I might just sell my O.G. 5150 and get me an O.G. Boogie :cool:. Very good sounds all around man. When will we have the album?

the mix, was definitely guitar-centric.
i'd love to go back and re-do a mix with a much hotter drum track, i may still remix this, but this is an already released track off of my 1st album.

i've never used vintage 30's, they have always sounded too harsh to my ears, this was using a pair of Greenbacks (british), i think they date back to 1983, anyway, it IS the old boogie...

the album, has already been release, back in 2006.

i'm working on the followup now, it's ready.
i've been using some older mixes, to a/b my mastering and mixes against....
so getting feedback on this guy, is still good as a yardstick..
my new mixes sound completely different, more low end, more drums. and still lots of guitars!!

the record company i was signed with for the 1st album, went tits up about a year and a half ago.
but i have the Gold Master disc!!

but, i'm planning on putting the 1st album up on CDBaby and Itunes, after i get this new one out.
you could pick it up then....
