I have been searching around for info on patch-bays for a little while and I have a plan of attack but I want to run it by some of the more seasoned users.

I am planning on purchasing two 48 point patch-bays

In PB1 will be the following:

4 outs from roland td-8
4 busses from the board
A keyboard
pod bass amp modeler
pod guitar amp modeler

I am planning to use PB2 for the following:

8 ins from delta 1010
8 outs from delta 1010
all 8 outs from the back of the headphone amp

I am planning to use a normaled setup which if I understand it correctly means the following:

ex. ifI have the keyboard wired to the top row of PB2 on in 1 and i plug something into the corresponding bottom row the keyboard signal is disconnected and what I inserted will be the source that is sent correct???

Before I buy any bays does this setup look like it will work or have i missed something?

And as far as the patch bays go is it a "sin" to go with something like he behringers or is there a quantum leap in quality by going with a more expensive model?

Thank you all in advance for your help.

Another use for Patch bays

Patch bays are great when you have a lot of wires in front, patching your Focusrite Voicemaster, your Dbx 386, A Joemeek VC3 and a few other things, then your wife decides to tip the rack over face first!
The multitude of wires in front of the rack cushioned the blow as the patchbay's inputs broke through the back and caused absolutely no harm to my wonderful gear.
If you have a clumsy (or malicous) wife, I recommend the 99$ cheapie from Guitar Center.
Sorry for not answering your question directly.
Reminds me of the time my old Marshall 100w tube head fell on to the floor from (Thank God) only 1 4x10 cab. What could be worse you ask? When I picked it up, my Rosewood Tele was underneath it.
Ok, nuff off topic stuff. Good luck with your setup. Sounds like you will have sweet flexibility and convenience form the bays.

I don't understand how you are arranging your gear on the bays.

You would probably want your keyboard outputs and other sources on one row normalled to the inputs on the Mixer. Then normal the outputs you use on the mixer to the inputs on the soundcard. Then you would normal the outputs of the card to the inputs on the headphone amp or mixer. That way you are ready to go without doing any patching.

Think of how you want stuff setup for the way you will use it most of the time. Then normal that stuff together.

I am envisioning(sp) the td-8,keys and pods to be in use all the time. Since at this time I do not have a pre amp I am simply using the board. I am not running any of the other sources through the board (unless they are miced) so my plan was to normal all outputs from sources (including busses from board) on one row. This way I have everything lined up neatly and I can simply path whatever source I am using at the time without reaching behind everything.
