Are there any reasons, other than sustain, that solid-body electric guitars have metal bridges or tailpieces rather than wood?

Thanks in advance,
Matthew

My Charvel ATX acoustic electric has a walnut bridge for that "unelectric" sound. But I know what you mean.
Adjustability for intonation is the key.Although you can intonate a "non-adjustable" bridge by filing,it sure is a lot easier to move those little string saddles!

Ground !

One thing is that you lose your ground to the strings making it a little noisy. If you have EMG s you would not need the ground, or if you had a wooden bridge with a metal tailpiece, that would ground the strings. Other than that it's just the tone is a little softer and less sustain, in theory.

Well said guys,
Intonation problems indeed, especially with the lighter gauge strings we like to use these days. Come to think of it, I have seen many archtypes with wooden bridges and metal tailpieces.
