Hello- I was wondering a couple of things:
First-I am on a 200.00 budget for monitors. What's up with Samson Resolv-65? are they garbage? Second-What kind of preamp should I get? I have an onkyo stereo amp that I run my computer thru. This ain't enough. I guess I have no Idea what I'm doing and any advice would be cool.

are the resolv65a garbage? No. Are they fantastic, no.

I use them, and understand the $$ limit issue well. I have found no real problem with them. I listened to several other monitors, but all were low end (Behringer Truth, M-Audio BX5) and preferred the resolvs.

With any monitor the main issue is to tune your ears to them so that you really know what the mix will translate to. Listen to lots of CDs through them to get a real grasp on how the monitors present "that sound".

Hey, EW.

Could you scrape up a little more? I just scored a pair of Event PS6 monitors off ebay for $250 including shipping. They're active. Active means powered by a built in amp. Passive means it needs an amp.

Most people use their PC for a preamp, by running the soundcard out right to the active monitors or to the power amp.

Hope this helps.

I'm with cstockdale. I have a pair also and while they are certainly not the best monitors, they do the job. I had a pair of maudio SP5b's before and they just sounded boxy to me. The new maudio BX5's might be better, but I haven't had a chance to hear them.

If you can save up a bit of cash in the next while, look at adding a sub to whatever monitors your going to buy. The resolv woofer, while better than some, still cannot give you accurate bass.
