A girl wanted me to do a cover of this song. I couldn't sleep last night so I just stayed up and now I'm fuckin tired and I've listened to this mix one too many times, so I need some fresh ears to listen to it.

This is my first time trying to mix bass, drums, acoustic+electric guitars, etc. in one mix. And on desktop speakers/in an untreated room it's not easy

Anyway, here's the file. I don't want to stream it because it sounds even worse at 128, so here's the 256K version of it.

EDIT: I decided to put a streaming link up here for those who don't want to download the whole thing.

I dunno about the hi-hat triplets...sound out of place to me. If you change them to make the beat more relaxed it might help.

The rest is awesome....the electric is right up there, but makes room for the acoustic after the intro. Can you boost the acoustic for 'And when I tell her...' or else take down the electric right after...I like the organ too....

Howd you record the electric? I like it, just the right amount of verb if you ask me.

I actually did a cover version of this myself a while back; before I ahd any decent equipment. Turned out okay, its a good song to do.

Is the organ a VST instrument?

Yea I was thinking about that too as I was listening to it again. I'll have to fix that.

Yea I'll take your advice on that. The organ was done through Reason. I was going to use a Hammond sound but it sounded annoying so I went with a Church Organ.

I recorded it through a piece of crap (Fender G-Dec) amp. It's impossible to find a good tone on that thing, but I'm glad you like it. I added a little reverb to it after it was recorded, using GlaceVerb. Also a slight boost in the midrange.

It was recorded with my MSH-1A.

Agreed, I'll probably end up redoing the lead anyway, so I'll take your advice and add some vibrato in there. ;)

Thanks for the advice so far.

Oh, btw, Tim. There's a thread somewhere on here for disabling the intilletext ads (or whatever they're called). ;)

Wamme ta sing it for ya? I can sing it perdy gud...

That would be awesome. Because I can't sing for shit.

Do you wanna record over the track and then send me an MP3/WAV of the vocals? I could use some experience with mixing vocals, I've never done it before.

Consider it dunned. I'll get a chance sometime this week end, if'n I member... :)

Hey, Danny. The arrangement is a little wacky. You play over the first part of the 2nd verse and later start fading out and cut off the entire last verse. Was what you posted it, or did you shorten it?

Any way, this is just one quick and dirty take, well, three takes if'n you count the harmony. Just verb added...

Let me know if you want me to sing it. If so, we'll hook up and you can give me the whole thing. I can send whatever you want in any format.

Btw, what do you use to record? I use SONAR.

Oh, and please excuse my French at the end there... I left it on because it tickled my funny bone...

I love the vocals man. Sounds kind of like Clapton but also has your own style to it.

The reason the arrangement is messed up is because I didn't even spend the time to learn the whole song so I cut it short. I'll get a full version done pretty soon and you can do the vocals.

By the way, I use Reaper. I think it would be easier if you sent me the vocal track and I could mix it in, but whatever you wanna do is fine with me. The project is in 48/24-bit, and it's pretty big so sending it would take awhile.

Listened a while ago. Forgot to mention. Sounds really cool. I don't know recognize the song but the bluesy guitar is pretty cool.

:)

Okay, Danny.

If you put a four count at the begining of the track, I'll sync it with the vocal tracks so you can sync it back to the original.

Make sense?

Anyway, when you get the whole song done (as far as the complete arrangement) post it here (with the four count) and I'll post the vocal tracks as .wav files via YouSendIt.

Ok. I should have the whole song done tomorrow. Gotta go now cause it's Thanksgiving, but I'll post here with the full song probably tomorrow or the next day (with the 4 count added).

Take it easy

Well, I added in the rest of the song, and (hopefully) fixed the arrangement. Also added a 4 count at the beginning.

I'll probably be doing a few minor things to it, like add a solo, and re-do some of the rhythm/lead, but I'll wait until the vocals are done.

Okay, Danny, I got it and will work on it as soon as I can. I may have time to whip something out later today if my voice is working right.

Sounds great but wrere's the vocal? I do this song with Fastrac I love it . We always play it as the last song of the night and people always slowdance to it .I think it's on the soundclips on our website. I sing it. :) :p

Cool version. The only thing I would do is throw in an alternate hi hat every now & then, or make the current hats 'less obvious'. Guitars sound great. Post it up when you get the vocal finished

Thanks.

I'm going to end up redoing the drums, they were just temporary so I had something to keep time with. ;)

As of now it's pretty obvious it's a drum machine. I'll try and get that fixed once Dan does the vocals.
