Wobbly Tascam 488 MkI

Hey guys and gals.

My bud has a Tascam 488 that's a little wobbly. I replaced the belt but it still wobbles. He uses Type II high bias tapes.

Any ideas? I was thinking that maybe the capstan motor needs to be oiled.

My recent "wobbles" with a 244 were entirely eliminated by replacing the pinch roller. Maybe this could do the same with your 488? I think I'd try this before oiling anything. You could also check that the motor drive pulleys are clean - some of the old drive belt residue stuck to these can cause havoc.
