Hello people I had a question about wires. I was wondering is it bad if you have cheap rca or 1/4 wires connected to your instruments? Does it affect your recordings?

Poor mans point of view

Until you start dumping serious money into your DAW and home studio, I wouldn't worry about it. Adequate home recordings can be made using RCA's and instrument cables. They aren't going to be pro or semi-pro quality but until you understand every component in your signal chain, it won't really pay off. Do a Google search on 1/4" TS (mono), 1/4" TRS (balanced), XLR, and RCA cables to get a better understanding of what you want. If the hardware that you have doesn't support balanced inputs, then you would be better off spending your money elsewhere.

In a nutshell, wires do effect your recordings. At a beginning level though, this effect is negligable. Understand Hi-Z (high impedance) from low-Z (low impedance) and when those cables are required. This should give you enough to start out with research. Happy searching.

Huh??? Care to elaborate on that pretty general statement?
(and especially on how you connect XLRs to instruments....)

Obviously Bruce, you don't have a 20oz sledge (aka. XLR to 1/4 converter, both TS & TRS).

Obviously he doesnt.... what a dweeb ;) And he considers himself a pro, jeesh.

........AND.....add the 20oz piggyback attachment to the original native sledge for those hard to convert XLR to RCA,.......BLAMMM!!!........ "CANON" plug coversions. Your results may vary..........solder.......who needs it, hit the damn thing hard enough and you can arc weld all your connections right to the outboard gear faceplate(always remember to properly ground all connections!). Looks like Home Depot has entered the Pro Audio arena.

I'd like to exothermicly weld my 00(double ought) oxygen free cables to my solid gold plated platinum RCA connectors instead of solder. Is this a good idea? And should I color them green with a majic marker?

No.........No...........well almost. You see TR e-thing is correct up to the point of hue. "Hue du jour" is fuscia with a splash of puce a just a hint of magenta............green is oh so trite!!!!!!!!
