Not wanting to be a party poopper here but I think it's important to remember that IR remotes are line of sight devices and the remote receiver unit in that kit comes with a relatively short cable...meaning you may not be able to move the receiver to a spot that's convenient to aim the remote control at. I also think that with a normal home studio that's swimming in wires all over the place anyway, that eliminated one of them is probably not going to truly satisfy the stereotypical neatness freak.

pretty cool for recording yourself if you are farther that the conventional version will reach.
it will work through glass right, if you are lucky enough to have a separate control room.
not a whole lot more than the originals go for on ebay. plus, they are not making the originals anymore.

Dr Zee has the pinouts for a DIY, but you're right, not that much more then a wired version. Does anyone know where to get the 12 pin connector?
