we don't need rest!!
after seeing the wireless suggestion in the "cable post"....I got to thinking...all the budget wireless units I have used, have all sucked, and not been usable. Now granted, I have not used many, and mostly of the Nady genre. But at one time or another, THEY ALL will cut out...even while I am within 25 ft of the receiver, and what usually happens is a FULL VOLUME blast of a white noise type of sound. Since I plug direct into the PA, this becomes VERY unacceptable. Is this common for all the low budget units...and is solveable at what price level? ....Spending $500 for a "good" wireless is too much for me....I guess I'd like to hear success stories from <$200 units. Testing is only useful in a real life situation, and a store trial I KNOW won't cut it. So...opinions/experiences??

No answers, only complaints from me. Everytime I've used one I've gotten the 135dB of white noise dropout that made me soil myself. I don't trust any of them.

Wireless? That is sooooo passé, everyone uses cellular now! :)

Avoid VHF wireless and use UHF, the AKG WR2000 I use is good to 300' or so inside or outside.

Sennheiser

A friend of mine uses the Sennheiser Evolution set (ew-172 ??) That works flawless, but is over the $200 budget.

Do all the units you used work on VHF?? Try the cheaper UHF stuff, maybee the AKG 1 channel thing (don't know the model number). Is that in your range?

Maybe it's just luck, but I've had a Nady 201 diversity system for years and it's never cut out ( I repeat...NEVER!). I do believe that you will experience dropouts unless you get a two channel diversity system.

I think I paid $460 for the AKG and they're about $360 at GC now (not the exact same model).

Channel selection and squelch can effect performance also.

that's the problem (not the pants soiling:( )...but, I've never heard of anyone else having this problem, but then I've never been able to really see or find out what they were using either.

I think if I spent $400 or so...I might squirm a tad...but if it worked ALL THE TIME, I might go for it.

btw, wait till you experience, holding your instrument, volumes down..or whatever (I find..DO NOT turn off the transmitter to save battery life), and the CHURCH is dead quiet...

sssshhhhh......

Wham!!!!!!

...your guitar goes ape shit with the 135dB of the aforementioned puke of a white noise sound. They think Satan himself is flying out of the speakers... It's happened ...believe me. Ya just do a Pete Townsend "air windmill", shuffle a little...and pretend that it wasn't your fault....ha!! But...you're the 'onstage' sound guy too...so pulling master fadars doesn't point fingers...necessarily. A 2nd time...yeah...it's happened...then you get nasty comments from church-goes....

Thats pretty funny.

I used to do A/V work for a church before I went over to the dark side. We used to get squeals from cheap wireless mics all the time. Every now and then we'd get trucker and police radio traffic.
