Anyone using a wireless keyboard to control their DAW? I'm wondering if they have the range to control the DAW transport from another room, i.e. through a wall. Also anyone using the Frontier Design Tranzport? Either way, this running back and forth to hit record and stop is getting old. :D

I just ordered the Tranzport a few days ago. I'll post into this thread how well it works. My situation may be a challenge for the Tranzport because my piano is in the livingroom and my studio down the hall from it. The distance is actually not far, but the signal has to travel through two walls. I'm *really* hoping it works, because I too am very tired of having to run from the piano to the other room to press record, back to the piano, and then into the other room again to stop recording.

Sounds cool, but my DAW isn't connected to my router, although this might be a reason to take the time to hook it up. I also only have XP Home on my DAW, but I think there's other remote desktop utilities. Could work, I'll have to do some research. Thanks.

Is a wireless setup important to you? Could you use cable instead? I think USB cables max out somewhere around 15 ft. but I think you can use longer runs thru the use of a powered USB hub. And for extremely long runs, I believe there is some type of extender (USB CAT5) that allows runs of up to 100 feet. (Of course, this assumes your keyboard etc. uses a USB port.) I tried a wireless mouse a year or so ago and the thing was always shutting down. the wireless part was great is but the batteries killed it for me.

I've got the same issues as far as Windows XP and lack of a router. Some folks wire a Cat 6 line into their tracking room so they don't have to go the wireless route.

So far this is the slickest method I've seen other than the Tranzport thingy; I 'll be interested to hear how well people like using Tranzport.

I've been using it pretty extensively during sessions. Every now and then, it loses communication with the receiver---a few dead spots in my living room---but for the most part, it works fairly well. I''m using it with Digital Performer on an electrically noisy first generation PowerMac G5. I'd almost be willing to place bets that when my quad comes next week, reception will improve.... :D

they should make a wireless mouse that remotle controlls your comp. but that you plug into the wall

but i guess that would defy the whole point of "wireless"
