its the best for production
i use xpPro in my studo. its the best os by far, i don't care for all the graphics so i just disable them. its much more stable than any other os. i haven't had one problem.

I have no opinion except my standard reaction for every new Microsoft OS, which is to let the early adopters go through the bugs and wait for the first service patch to come out.

I have SP1 beta installed with my XP Pro version... although the "official" SP1 won't be released for a couple more months, there are beta serive packs for XP floating around...
Great OS if there are appropriate drivers for your sound card...
No probs burning CDs either... I use CDRWIN 4.0a and Nero 5.5.5.1...
There should really be no probs with burning CDs in XP anymore since most of the softwares that didn't work in it (EZCD, etc...) have patches now available to update the progs to XP support...

I have a dual boot system running Win Xp for games and the net and ME for audio. I must say there really should be an "unproven" option. One BIG downside to XP is that a lot of audio programs will not run on it.
The main one is Cubase - some people claim they got it working ok but I have my doubts and I would rather wait until Steinberg make a release which is 100% Win XP compatable. Cubase 5.1 is due out soon and has no updates on the XP compatability side of things as far as I know.
I love XP as an OS but until it is proven i will steer clear of it for my audio setup at the moment.

As far as digital audio recording goes - there is no reason to use WinXP over Windows 2000.
WinXP is Win2k with a cute new little interface, not much else as far as digital audio recording professionals are concerned.

Winxp is a godsend. It is what win2k should have been all along. It is more stable than ME/9x, its faster than 2k and ME/9x, and it has a much greater compatability than 2k.

Asus A7A 266 motherboard with Ali chipset
1.2 Gig Athalon T-bird
512 DDR ram
1 40gig WD HD 7200rpm
1 20gig WD HD 7200rpm
Also I'm using the Home version. I'm not planning on using dual processors and that seems to be the main reason to go pro.

I'm using a M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 with Sonar using their latest Wdm drivers for XP. Not a single drop-out or freeze. I'm getting 2ms. latency so far.drstawl said:

I changed out that piece of crap kt133a for a Asus A7m266 w/512 DDR ram. Yeehah! Stability, stability, stability. I'm going through old tracks, new tracks. Piling on tracks. Piling on plug-ins.
Only time it burped was when I put 4 busses on Vegas 2.0. I then tweaked it all big time as per

I am using a delta 1010 and cakewalk sonar. Since I was using XP pro pre-release(legitimately), it didnt cost me anything more for pro over home, but I would have gone pro because I paln on dual processor eventually. Home should be fine for most other. I havent tried VST, because I dont like VST.

Cubase works fine under XP... i know i'm using it right now. Cuibase 5 vst/32 R6. not one problem. i also have nuendo on this computer...no problems evey program i used under me works fine other than Pro tools 5.1 their is a compatibility servicec pack out also at microsoft's web site.

i just setup 2 DAW's and they are working fine under Xp. one was a dual athlon with a Motu 2408mkII and the other is a 1.8 athlonXP with a Staudio C-port....
Atl's aight. i've been doing some tracks with a few atl artist. decatur will always be crunk when you get back. so if you arn't in the army why are you in germany? i lived in germany myself a few years back. i think i was at HAWN....

Hi. I am new to the group and to home recording. I'm looking for a little help. In August, I bought a 4-track at a garage sale and have ahd fun monkeying around with it (I'm as amateur a musician as they come).
