windows xp, mbox2 and cubase 5.0

new to this. please help me setup my system if you can. I have a great PC running XP. I just connected an Mbox2 and use Cubase 5.0. I notice what I think is a latency problem but I am not sure whether this is because of my setup - I am not using the MBox ASIO in device connections. Help!

What I learned (the hard way) is that the exact OS is important. I believe most of these USB interfaces were designed around XP Pro. The other thing is you have to disable your internal sound card, and use the mbox as a glorified sound card. Monitor through headphones. This should help a lot. You can also try asio4all.
