Windows XP and Audigy

I'm using Win XP and SB Audigy. The thing is my computer is now slower than before; I used to have Win ME with 256Meg of RAM, and I now have 768 Meg of RAM. All of the drivers I use for the Audigy are the latest available, samething as for the XP drivers necessary for my hardware. I asked Creative Support about it and they told me that XP uses a lot of RAM because of something called "HyperThreading". Anyone knows what this is? Or how I could solve my problem? Anyhow, it's hard to beleive that a new OS would use so much RAM as to make my computer 2/3rd slower than before; I can now use a lot less plug-ins at the same time than I used to. Cheers!
