I am making a digital audio workstation and I would like to know which of these two opperating systems is better suited.

Windows ME seems faster at startup but less reliable. Windows 98 seems to crash less often but loads slow and is older. I have know idea which one of these is better for a audio-oriented PC.

Anyone?

Thanks, Lars

I would go for 98SE. It's devoid of the bells and whistles that come with ME (and bugger the system) and is faster than both its sibling 98 (and ME sometimes, check for reviews on the net on the release of ME. It seems 98Se was a better system and ME's not really an 'upgrade' as such, maybe a 'downgrade'.

I use ME myself. I hate it, I tell ya. I've managed to get rid of a few bells/whistles using a great program on the net called System Restore Remover, which enables you to shut down a lot of ME's added features, making it perceptibly faster and less buggy. ME's also less tolerant of slightly buggy hardware, will crash at the drop of a hat.

98SE is the best. Unfortunately I don't own a copy and I'm not about to buy it now. Win 2000 is probably the best, if your hardware supports it. Check with your vendor.

Get 98lite from 98lite.com. That will help speed things up a little. Plus there are a few other tweaks you can do to the OS to make it a little bit faster. Do a search on google.com.

Does Windows 98SE mean "Winodws 98 Second Eddition", or "Windows 98 SPECIAL Eddition"?

I have windows 98 SECOND eddition, but I think I remeber hearing something about microsoft releasing a "special" eddition.

Thanks for the input
