Hi gang,

I just had my DAW built:
P4 2.4
Asus P4PE
1 gig (512x2)Corsair XMS
1 20 gig os WD(8meg buf)
2 80 gig data WD(8meg buf)
Matrox G450
450 watt antec ps
Antec 4U rack case
Generic burner
Generic floppy
Pod
Some midi stuff

My plan is to buy an Echo Mia (the new one w/midi) and then buy a nice Preamp sooner or later,to be used on vocals, acoustic and some electric stuff, rather than buy your average soundcard/brakeout box configuration, (I have a pod already)

My questions are many....
1.What advantages or disadvantages will this present?

2.Will noise(rf?) be a factorwith the converters being in the computer?

3.Will a good preamp in front of an "ok" card be pointless?

4.The preamps I am looking at (Focusrite Platinum series) have an A/D converter card option that I am thinking of getting later to plug into the 2 SPDIF conectors on the MIA...Does this make sense?

So to summarize..I would plug my Pod into the 1/4" I/O, and the Preamp into the SPDIF I/O. Or just plug the pre into the 1/4" for now.....

WHEW.....

Any thoughts, recomendations or suggestions will be very much appreciated.
P.s. I have posted this on another dicussion board but did not get much response...Hoping for better luck here.

Thanks.

Too much of a question to answer in a minute or two.

2.Will noise(rf?) be a factorwith the converters being in the computer?

You know, I have a Delta 66 with converters that are on the card inside the PC case, and it's dead quiet. I think it's a non-issue with a well-engineered card.

3.Will a good preamp in front of an "ok" card be pointless?
Not necessarily. I suppose if you spent a few grand on a superb preamp and had a SoundBlaster clone, that would be pointless...

4.The preamps I am looking at (Focusrite Platinum series) have an A/D converter card option that I am thinking of getting later to plug into the 2 SPDIF conectors on the MIA...Does this make sense?
Sure. That would work. Whether the converters in the Focusrite are superior or not to those in the Mia, I have no idea.

Thanks AlChuck
I just want to do this as wisely as possible, and don,t want to get to a point.. and then regret the path I've taken

I appreciate your help.

Thanks,
V
