just been looking at usb/pci audio interface's. I've found this that reads the same as the usb version but is half the price, am i missing something?
I'm just starting out with PC recording and play/write mainly alt/heavy rock and realise i cant use the soundcard that came with my pc.

I have a line6 amp (flextoneII) with line out and xlr/midi out, also has a setting for using it as a mic preamp.

will the card above in the link be ok for getting my voice and guitar onto my pc ready for me to add drums and bass onto. It comes with Sonar LE but im also thinking of getting EZdrummer aswell so i have everything (except the talent) to make my songs.

any help will be gratefully appreciated.

It would work fine. If it was me however, I would look into a USB interface. There are many fine USB interfaces that are reasonably priced, and they have decent mic preamps. M-Audio makes some good ones. The reason I say this is that in additon to recording your voice, you can mic your guitar amp, giving you more options for creating great sounds than if you just went direct from the amp. I just think that after a little while you are going to feel limited by the soundcard you are thinking about buying. Anyway welcome to the wonderfull world of PC recording, have fun.

Hi thanks for the reply.
I'm a little confused though as Im sure i read that this is a 2 in/out card, wouldn't that mean i could mic up the amp aswell if i wanted to?

What i was getting at was that if you bought a USB interface, they typically have mic and line inputs. You could run your amp direct like with the PCI card, or if you wanted to add a different sonic flavor you could mic the amp. This way your werent limited to the mic preamp in your line 6. As it stands right now, the card you are interested in (correct me if I am wrong) only has 2 line level inputs. The card does not have onboard preamps, so you would have to use the one in your amp for vocals, and then take the line signal out of the amp to the soundcard. Even though the card has two inputs you would only be able to use one because you would have to run everything through your amp first. I think you would be happier with a USB interface because they have both mic and line inputs, and many of them come bundled with some of the software you mentioned earlier. I hope that helps, if not let me know and i will try to explain it better.

oh i see what your saying now.
Thank you so much for taking the time to explain it to me

well i've just took the plunge and bought sonar power studio 250, that comes with their version of the Edirol UA2EX, so i've either bought a lemmon or i'll finaly be able (once i've learnt how to use it all) to put my songs to life.
