Will this work? (Mixer or USB interface?)

i'm looking into a basic audio interface fore my home recording. I usually only do folk songs with ukuleles, harmonicas, vocals and guitars, and so I never record more than 2 simultaneous tracks. Something basic will do for me, and money's also a restriction.
I was looking into using a Behringer 802 mixer along with a pretty basic Behringer USB interface (UCA222), since the mixer does not have a USB output. I read good reviews on the mixer, especially for the price, I definitely need some mic preamps and those don't seem to be too bad, but I've also heard bad things about Behringer as a brand. Is this combo worth it? Will it work if I plug the mixer's RCA outputs to the interface and then use that as a USB output? Should I look into another interface instead? I'm quite new to the home recording thing so I don't really know a lot about what I'm doing.

Read the sticky about mixers up above. You don't need one to record and if you don't already have one, probably don't need to buy one, unless you have other uses for it. You just need a decent 2 channel interface, which aren't all that expensive..

As the others have said, "yes, it would work but it might not be the best way to go". Unless you need a mixer for live performances or something, you're money is going into features you don't need, for example the channel EQ which is pretty poor and useless for recording.

Similarly, the UCA202 interface is, at most, "adequate" and certainly not great.

If you take the money you'd spend on the mixer and the UCA202 and put it into a decent 2 mic input interface, you'll get better sound quality for your money.

If you DO need the mixer for other purposes, you could probably get pretty close to one with an inbuilt USB interface for similar money. That might be more convenient.

Any suggestions as to which interface might do the job for a reasonable price? I liked this combination because the total for both of these in Amazon came up to around $80. I'm not in the position to spend more than $100 right now :(

You get what you pay for. Pay cheap money now and you'll be looking to upgrade in a few months.

Not really helpful. What brand would you recommend, that has somewhat modest quality and price?

Well, I had a look on Amazon and found THIS ONE that fits your budget. However, for $24 more, THIS ONE has enough extra facilities and inputs that it would pretty much "future proof" you and be a very good investment.

Other brands to look at would be Focusrite, RME, M Audio and maybe MOTU--I'm not in the USA so can't be sure what you'd pay for their various models there--a lot less than me, I bet!
