Will This System Work Well with Sonar 6

After years of procrastination in which I have driven myself, and one of my friends, crazy, I am finally in the home straight of buying a DAW.

The following specs./products are what I'm aiming for, and I'm wondering what people would say about the potential conflicts with Sonar Home Studio or 6:

Asus P5W DH Deluxe
2 GB RAM - Corsair 2 Duo E6600
2.4 GHz
SATA II - Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM X 3 HD's
RME Fireface 400 firewire audio interface

I've read that people recommend HD's with at least 16MB cache, and that things like LCD monitors provide less interference than CRT ones.

Also, in looking at the Fireface's specs, I realize that the unit only has one type of driver (can't remember if they're ASIO or WDM). Would this matter?

Also, the Fireface does not have 64 bit capability, apparently. Should I worry about this?

I anticipate that my typical recording will vary between 12 and 20 tracks, with some going very heavy on the effects. Will be doing some 'traditional' rock, and then another project with a friend which will feature a lot of modulation effects etc..

I'd appreciate any help that anyone can give me.

Thanks
GV

I am running your exact configuration except with a Lynx IIA soundcard. Sonar 6 runs fine.

Ive built and tested several setups exactly like that. The Fireface works great on that config and will give you your requirements and much more. Use the latest RME ASIO drivers with it. Also make sure to run the flash tool to be sure you have the latest hardware revision.

Dont confuse the 64 b software environment with 16 or 24 b recording bitdepth.

Hey I was going to upgrade my Sonar 5 to 6, is it worth it??

anyways, that system sounds pretty good. You should be easily able to handle multiple tracks at once along with plug-ins.

If youre running Producer, I really like sessiondrummer2 and the VintageChannel64. Those two are enough for me, personally. There are some cool features in 6 that really make it more complete.

Hi Everybody
Thanks very much for all of your replies.

I feel more confident now about taking the plunge.

All the best,

Hard2Hear and Anyone else who might know,
Are there things that I should look out for when assembling the DAW?

How does one update, if I'm going to keep the computer off line and not have any memory intensive programs like an antivirus on the machine?

Most updates are security related, the others can always be downloaded on another computer and installed id needed. Nothing else really to look out for in the build. Keep it neat and read the motherboard manual before you start plugging things in.

It should work well, I run my Sonar 6 on a 256mb RAM and 200gb Hard drive, it works very well.

I can't believe Sonar 6 is working well on such a 'primitive' system - good to hear.

Do you have antivirus disabled and nothing else on the computer?
