no. get a hafler TA1600 or something like that. Just make sure its not underpowering the speakers, which WILL damage the tweeters. costs about 250 - 300 dollars

As to whether or not that amp will do the job, i have no idea...im not familiar with it....but for $250, id get the TA1600 Tyler mentioned or a used P series Hafler amp....

Actually, Crown make EXCELLENT amps... although the one you are referring too is one of the budget line models........

Probably on par with the Hafler TA series, which is Hafler's budget line!

OK, Bruce if both are budget models .........

Which budget amp to get, the Crown has almost 3X the power 200 wts @ 4 ohms while the TA 1600 I think is 65 or 75 wts @4 ohms

Well... all else being equal, the extra power can't hurt...!

I have no direct experience with either model specifically, so I can't advise much other than to say both companies make excellent product so I doubt you'd regret it if you bought either one!

See what QSC has at that price range and pick the best overall deal. Compare warranties because some companies will replace them no questions asked.

Hey Tex,

QSC has some models that start at $299, but I see both offer 3 years for their models, Crown has the XLS 202 that's 200 wt @ 4 ohms for $249, QSC has the RMX850 that's 300 wts @ 4 ohms for $299

Any of those will work fine. I'm a firm believer that you can never have too much power so get the biggest you can afford.

I got the TA1600 and I'm very pleased with it. I could agree that more power is better but, How much? Maybe we all need 8000 watts to blow our ears out, yah. Sorry I'm having a bad night.

Flash,

I almost said thanks for your helpless statement, but i had a bad night too :)

Ok, well, I was under the impression that it was better to use a poweramp like the hafler ta series (designed for use with nearfields i believe) for nearfields. Are all amps the same, and this is just another example of my inexperience again?

A lot of the difference between a "studio" power amp and a "live" power amp is how noisy they are, and how much they weigh. In a live situation, no one particularly cares about noisy fans, while weight is a major consideration. In the studio, weight is irrelevent (assuming it is going to stay put) while heat sinks instead of fans provide a great noise advantage.

Id rather use a used Carver than any of those new one listed here.
