Will this gear do the job?

I have a midi keyboard, an old Yamaha MT2X 4 track analog recorder / mixer, some Shure Mics, a couple of guitars and a Pentium 3 550mhz with a soundblaster compatible sound card. (I assume it's 16 Bit) No Audio Software yet.
Q: Is it possible to get demo quality multitrack recordings out of this gear?
Q: What (cheap) audio software is available?
Q: How best to set it all up?

- See all 3 links above

- Yes, demo quality - chuck the 4 track and use your sound card (or use the 4 track as a mic preamp)

- You're stuck with 2 tracks of drums - use the 4 track as a mixer and mic&mix the kick, snare, and 2 overheads. Mix carefully.

- Read, test, research, test, read, read, read, test.

...6 months later....

- Sick of pre-mixing drums? Tired of 16 bit audio? You need a new soundcard and mixer. Get a good multi-input sound card (like a Delta 1010 or a C-Port) and a mixer with direct outs or channel inserts to use as a preamps. It'll set you back maybe $650, but if you did your reading and testing, your recordings will start sounding a lot less like demos.
