Will the software load twice?

Let's just say, hypothetically of course :D , that I wanted to load cubase onto a friend's computer, after I've already got it loaded on my computer. I'd also want to install my presonus firebox software on his computer as weel. Will the software load again?
 
ooooohhh careful dude...people dont liek that sorta thing here.
 
You can load it on as many computers as you like but you need the dongle for it to operate.

And that is perfectly acceptable use of the software. It will only run on the computer with the dongle attached.
 
I know, I know. I'm terrible. But I had wonderful and entertaining excuses!

1. Sorry for the double post. My computer froze while I was sending the first, and I didn't think it posted, and I reloaded the page, and when it did it sent it twice. My sad. But seriously, if any of you has a huge problem with this double post, there's something wrong with you. Theres a fine line between being reasonable and asking people to be courteous, and being a prick :)

2. You're right. Piracy is bad. I agree. However, I'm not gonna be seeling this to anybody. He won't even be able to use it. It's just that, the band I am wants to record, but I live an hour's drive from the other members, and most of the band's equipment is at the drummer's house. It would be alot easier to record at the drummer's house, where we practice. However, I'd strongly perfer not to move my desktop. In fact, my parents wouldn't let me. So I thought I'd just install cubase on the drummer's laptop. He won't be able to use it after we record even, seeing as I'll be taing my mics and firebox home with me.

yah this is perfectly legitimate. It' not piracy. Just the way ya phrased it seemed a little dubious! :)
 
ok, the dongle...................is that the firebox?
 
The dongle is the "key" that plugs into a USB port.

BTW I have a new copy of Cubase LE that I will give to you . No dongle required just the serial number on the cd sleeve. Never opened. Shoot me your address if you want it.
 
Well, if it's the Cubase LE that came with the FireBox, then there is no dongle. The software is installed with a serial number. This from the license agreement in LE...

1. License Grant. Subject to the restrictions set forth below, this License grants you a non-exclusive, perpetual license to (a) install the Software on only one computer; (b) use or authorize use of the Software on only one computer;

"only one computer" seems pretty clear to me.

I was looking for a copy of LE to write a tutorial on the basics. If Newbie Dude does'nt want it, let me know.

In fact, I don't have to worry about this anymore. Cause my drummer's parents are rich, and he's spoiled, and apparently, he just decided he wants to get some recording gear. So naturally, his parents are buying for him thousands and thousands of dollars of recording gear which he knows nothing about.

On one hand,I hate him. Cause I had to work and save for my cheaper-end gear. I had o record through a telephone in a tiny guest bedroom for two years, starting out.

On the other hand, I love my drummer, Cause I get to use all his gear :D

I used to record song ideas on my answering machine so I would'nt forget them. :D
 
Don't sweat it - my experience has been that, in general, people who don't have to work for things rarely take full advantage of them. I see this all the time with pirated software.

If you have to earn it, then you're more likely to take it all seriously and put it to good use. How do you learn the value of something if you never had to pay for it (or earn it, etc)?

You'll probably far exceed him in skills down the line.

Some kid is all worried about how to use his equipment at a friends house a hour away that he doesn't care for... and wants to put Cubase on his friends PC.

The word Piracy gets brought up... & with in 4 hours of his dilemma all of a sudden the Friends rich parents are going to buy him thousands of dollars of equipmant.

Dongle? what's that, it didn't come with the software when I downloaded it...

haha, yeah, I had that same problem with a friend or two before.
 
True, but what are you gonna do?

In the end his first request was legit anyways, assuming that he had a legit version of the softeare to start with.

I remember a guy who was tellign me that because he followed the terms of the licensing agreement when he nistalled a COPY of a cracked app on another machine, that he was technically legit.

For what it's worth, I basically had the same question. Likely I'll be getting a firepod soon, and would be interested in recording at my bassist's house and doing the mixing at my house on a different computer, using the included Cubase LE for both. But it would seem this is frowned upon by the company:

Yet, it also seems that my situation (and apparently the OP's) can't be that unusual. So do I need to BUY a 2nd copy to do this? That's kind of crappy.
