Will the amp blow up my PC, or what?

My dad has a Yahama 100 II mixer board (he got it used 16 years ago), and he wants to connect it to my PC for recording.

The output connection from the mixer board is L and R 1/4 inch ports, and he has a cable from those that merges into a single mini-jack which will plug into my PC soundcard.

Is that safe? Do I need to add some kind of adapter along the way?

As long as it's line level it'll be fine.

The outputs say "Line Out" on the mixer...

... should I use "Mic In" or "Line in" on my PC?

thx

Thx for the prompt replies!

I have one more question.

There's a good 80 feet between my PC and where his music stuff is.

Would it be sensible to make a cable run that far, or would the signal degrade or something?

I'd rather not haul my PC around.

The outputs of the mixer are more than likely Low Z balanced lines which could do it. However going into the computer through an unbalanced/Hi Z input of the soundcard with that much cable in front of it could be (but not necessarily) a problem. Running more than around 10' with unbalanced lines can generate hum that won't go away.

that doesnt sound very practical anyway- you gotta set your levels and then walk (run) that distance to hit record-

youd probably be better off running the balanced mic cable the long distance and put the mixer by the puter- less chance of noise- Track Rats right on with the hum thing- hum SUCKS

Well my dad will be singing and playing piano, not me.

I'll just sit by the computer and we'll work the communication out some how.

I will consider moving the mixer by the computer... but is there an alternative cabling I can do from the mixer to my PC that would work well at long distances?

Like from the 1/4" inch jack from mixer to an "XLR" cable which would run the distance, then from that with an adapter into my PC's mini-jack...
