OK. I've put time and effort into this. Stray's already given me a lot of support on this so can someone else please take 5 minutes of their life so I can get some feedback. I know lot's of people have listened, but I haven't got any feedback.

Please!

Can I be honest ...this beat sounds like bad video game music..im sorry man but Ill be honest with you ..You need more work...But hey who am I right?..

Oh, really? Sure ur listening 2 it on hi-fi?

Oh, well - at least stray likes it. Not ur fault if u have an opinion.

Is it the mix u don't like, or the idea.

I does sound a little like a "Legend of Zelda" type of video game.

Its not horrible, but i cant imagine lyrics of any kind over it. the instrument sounds are kinda cheesey.

Keep at it though. Put some rhymes to it i'm curious as to how it'd come out. You could be breaking up some new ground.

70's club music. Put the high hat on 1/8 notes(mpc users know) and slow down the drums.

I have to agree with canine but its ok though. I had a large assortment of songs that sounded the same way when i first started. You need some better sounds. Your change ups are fine but the instruments sounds weak. what did you use to make this beat. I think with the right sounds you would be able to make this sound better.

But of course I could be wrong . just my opinion

I'm using Cubasis VST 3.0

And, yes, I think it is the instruments that ruin it: I'm just using the ones that came with it 'coz I don't know where to get any decent free ones.

I've pretty much got the rhymes sorted and they go perfectly.

The only problem seems to be in the beat itself :(

Oh, well, it can't be THAT bad for a first attempt, can it?

I DEFINATELY NEED BETTER SOUNDS - I JUST DON'T HAVE ANY!!!

if you need better sounds...

1) SAMPLE, probably the most cost effective way of getting good sounds. Wax is cheap. Shop around at garage sales, flea markets, thrift stores (garage sales are my personal favorite).. you can also get it for free by sampling from mp3s.

2) Get Reason... plenty of tight keyboard and other sounds.. even good drums.

Having good sounds is the first step to making a good beat. You can be a great programmer but if your sounds suck your beat'll be weak; but a novice could make a decent beat if they have the right sounds.

Shit...............

Compared to my first beat, this shit is a masterpeice......

Maybe we should all post our first beats in a new thread so Abyss won't feel so bad!!!!

Naahhhh.......That would be too embarassing for me:o

Abyyss,

It looks like you got some solid reviews here, I agree on most accounts. If I knew more about VSTs I would have made some suggestions along these lines but I thought you were confined to the sounds you were using.

I spent some time reading up on Cubase and learned a bunch about it. It looks like there are a lot of free resources available for downloading new instruments. Spin made some good recommendations. Here's another real good site for downloading all types of music related freeware/shareware/demos including VSTs. www.hitsquad.com/smm

Let us know if and when the version Atillah comes up with is available.

Thanks. Can't tell u 'bout what's happanin' w/ Atillah's remix - he needs 2 get back 2 me (see "Aargh! I've Chopped My Leg Off!")

Abyyss,

Well let me know how that works out. If you're anxious and can't get in contact with Atillah for some reason I can do something similar (now that I know you can get me an SMF) just to give you an idea of what effect higher quality sounds could have on your sequence.

Not a big deal, it would only take 15 - 30 minutes in the studio.

Sup man?

Just post the midi file here(it should only be a few between 50-100kb)

I'll download it and switch the instruments and upload it so you could hear it!!!!

The longest part of the process would be uploading......It would take about 20 min. on my dial-up modem!!

Here it is.

The instruments sound TERRIBLE as midi and it won't do the drum beat for some reason, so I'll see if I can attach the drum beat separate for u, it probably won't work though, as it's samples (I think)

OK.

I've changed the drum kit to a crappy steel drum - IT SOUNDS EVEN WORSE!! But it accepts that it's there on playback.

The only thing it won't do now is the gunshot and clapping at the start.
