Hi, it said don't be afraid to ask stupid questions so here we go. Is there a program that allows you to take music off of a cd and take out the voice or certain musical parts of this and then you can sing or add your music to it? This would be for our own personal use.

Next question, what software right now is available for mixing and making your own songs without being a computer programmer to run it? Can you buy certain types of music (like drums, rythems etc.) that you can put into this program that you don't play yourself.

Thank's

Hi, welcome

Part One: No, I am not aware of any program that would
do that. We have had similiar questions before,
And there is a Hardware Device called the Thompson
vocal eliminator that is supposed to do that.

Sounds like you want pre-recorded music with no
vocals recorded, like Karaoke?? Try
www.pocketsongs.com they have thousands of songs
available.

Part 2: Try a program like Band-in-a-box, this sounds
like what you want. Good Luck

Niner -- Check out a program (plug-in, actually) called Analog X Vocal Remover. It's designed to (attempt to, rather) eliminate vocals from pre-recorded music, (i.e. music off a CD, or something similar). Words of warning: it doesn't work great all the time, and even when it gets rid of the vocals, it may not be what you're looking for. Essentially, it just removes any sound that's common to both the right and the left channels equally, which most often is vocals. Of course, other stuff is frequently panned center as well, and those can get at least partially removed by the program. Also, the reverb from the vocals is frequently not completely removed so you end up with "ghost" sounding echos of the vocal track. But, depending on what you need it for, it could work OK. I see some limited application in mediocre quality home karaoke, maybe.

There's lots of programs that do some variation of what you describe in part 2...
Band in a Box or Jammer Pro...
If what you are looking for is a simple computer program that will let you make your own music with a minimal amount of fuss/know-how you can check out
Fruity Loops or Sonic Foundry ACID
If you need links to home pages for these products, or have questions about what they do specifically, just ask.
