Will my Mic Blow up?

I wouldn't put it inside a kick or near the hole if the front head has one. Out in front of the kick would be cool, just stay away from that hole (the gust of air will eventually stretch the diaphram).

nah, might clip the FET or saturate the transformer depending on where you place it. I suppose there's an outside chance the diaphragm could hit the backplate temporarilly - no permanent damage.

I've been experimenting with a gain mod that actually changes the gain of the FET rather than putting an evil ceramic capacitor across the capsule as a 10dB pad as the stock mic does. This trick requires a bias tweak with a spectrum analyser so its not really plug and play mod.

Why not consider backing the mic out about 4 feet from the set at about 2-3 feet high and not directly in front the the "hole" then add 2 overhead mics giving you a 3 mic set-up?
I believe this is one of the many "approved" methods of drum set recording....
