Will EZDrummer accept Midi Input?

I'm curious if I can map from the midi-out on my electronic drums into EZDrummer to access more samples... Has anyone successfully done this around these parts? Thanks!

I have both EZ and Superior and a Alesis electronic kit with the trigger i/o. The pads are plugged into the trigger which is sent via usb to the pc. Don't know what you mean by map I just turn everything on and start making noise

Dunno if you already know but when you insert EZ drummer, if you ensure you have your DAW set to "all synth audio outputs", it will automatically map each drum/cymbal to a separate channel for mixing/effects later...I didn't know that, but I do now :)

Sweet. Thanks guys! I just might use my Ion iDM02 Module with trigger's on my drummer's acoustic kick, snare, and toms and set up some stereo overheads to catch the cymbals. Midi out from the module to EZ Drummer and mix the overheads in with the midi.

Has anyone here recorded like this with positive results??

I use a roland TD3 brain with Koby mesh pads all round & roland cymbals with a regular set of hihats into Superior 2.0 (I have EZDrummer aswell and it works just the same). The main problem for me was getting the regular mic'd up hats to sound like they were in the same space as the sampled drums.

I managed this by NOT using the room mic in superior but instead bussing all the sampled drums and the hihats to the same room reverb and it works a treat.

You'll be needing quite a fast computer that will let you get your ASIO sample rate down to about 96 samples otherwise the drummer is gonna hear the sampled sounds from EZDrummer fractionaly later than he hits the drums, a sure fire way to confuse a drummer.

I run an intel core 2 quad Q6600 @ 2.4GHz with 4Gb of PC8500. My roland brain is pluged via midi to my Yamahan N12 which has great drivers and lets me record drums, bass, couple of guitars & vocals with the ASIO set at 32 samples.

I get really good results. I'd like to go all brass with the cymbals too and just keep the mesh head kit but the room and location isn't ideal so I work with the tools I have for now.

Good luck with it.... I could never get the hats to sound tightly closed on the e-drums and our drummer bounces his hihat leg constantly to the beat so a rubber pad just wasn't cutting it

Bit off topic, but why not run that baby @ 3ghz ? :)

The G0 stepping it hardly breaks a sweat with a bit of an overclock and stays perfectly stable, but the speed gain is certainly noticeable. An 'adequately decent' motherboard contributes towards stability, however anything but the very cheapest should cut it - you don't need anything fancy. As for temps... I have a nice Noctua HSF for mine but I've heard the temps stay low (again, talking about the G0 stepping here... B3 ran a bit hotter) even with the stock cooler.

Just a thought!

yeah totaly off topic :D The mobo is an Asus P5Q pro, it'll handle the overclock no problem. However I run a couple of UAD DSP cards in my system taking care of 90% of my plugins. I've never seen my system hit higher than 55% resorce use and that's running my ASIO driver at 64 samples with close to 30 tracks in a mix. I don't see the point of overclocking a system that is only using half it's power any way. The best result that would achieve would be to shorten the lifespan of my processor. My rig is in the "is it turned on?" whisper quiet bracket, I can afford to run such quiet fans because I'm not overclocking. Core temp is around 42 degrees in the middle of a full on session, I could overclock it easy but again, why would I?

I'd recommend ProTrig to trigger your drums. It's really cheap and accurate. It works both live and post-production. They've got a demo version at their site and a video. You just hook it up with drumkit forom hell or addictive drums for the sounds. Works like a charm when i'm playing. gl =)
