Will Amplitube work with CEP with the VST/DX adapter from spin audio?

I downloaded all pieces of software. Is there a special sequence or something as I found I couldn?t even install the Amplitube demo unless it was in the same folder as CEP.

I did install the VST/DX adapter, but it didn;t seem to make a difference.

In CEP I followed the advise I read in a previous post about going into CEP edit>effects>refresh list. Once it tells me it may take a while all of a sudden a pop-up window comes looking for VST .dll files. I point it to the Amplitube folder.... nothing. I point it to the Spin Audio vst/dx folder ... nothing.

If plug-ins are this complicated who is actually using them?

Some FX plugs are actually designed to be run as instrument types (VSTi). These differ from plain FX in that they add a midi port in the hosting software for their control. CEP/Audition does not support this form of plug-in.

I'm not certain that this is the case with Amplitube, but the Re-valver amp simulator that comes with Cakewalk Sonar is an instrument type (DXi) and is therefore unsupported too.

I don't know why they do this with some FX - only excuse I can think is that those using a PC purely to host the FX wil be able to control from a midi pedal board, just as with a hardware FX box such as Line6 pod. For that to work, the FX plugin has to have a midi port which the Instrument type plugin
does provide.
I own a plug-in host called Console. This can be loaded as a VST, VSTi, DX, DXi or run standalone. I intend to try loading the DX or VST version in Audition1.5 to see if I can fool it into running a VSTi or DXi.

geez, the vsti and dxi things I didn't even know existed. I was looking to try the Amplitube to see how it sounds for guitar stuff like my POD or V-amp2. From what you are saying it sounds like I wouldn;t have been able to use the VST or DX plug ins like I was expecting to. Basically you are saying with those types I would only be able to play guitar into CEP and then apply the FX's later. That would totally take away from the intended purpose. How can Amplitube stay in business if the applications arent even that useful?

I'm just warning you that it could be a VSTi, I don't know for sure. The specs just say VST/DX but it could still be unsupported for other reasons.

There are plenty of programs that can support it - Cubase, Nuendo, Logic audio, Cakewalk Sonar, N-track etc. CEP/Audition is really an Audio production environment with no pretensions to host realtime FX monitoring.

In any case, you cannot monitor FX live in CEP as it does not support low-latency audio drivers such as ASIO, nor does it have input monitoring so you can hear the the effected sound back as you play.
If that's what you want, you need another program and a Soundcard that does have low-latency drivers.

I use amplitube with a VST wrapper from spin audio.

Whenever I pull up the wrapper, I just point it to the correct file ("amplitube.dll") and it works flawlessly. I doubt this helps you, but I wanted to post to let you know that it is indeed possible to run Amplitube in CEP through a wrapper.

Good Luck,
Chris

When you say you pull up the wrapper do you mean when in CEP you select refresh effect and then point it to the VST wrapper first? Or do you mean you RUN the VST wrapper before you start CEP (BTW I can't find out how to RUN the VST wrapper so I am guessing it is always running once you start CEP)

Are you able to hear the sound of the amp models in Amplitube while you are playing or only after you record a track?

Also when I downloaded the Demo of Amplitube it downloaded three versions one for VST one for DX and another format as well. The first time I downloaded it I had it install the DX AND VST versions and then it hung up saying something like there was no VST something or another in the registry. Then I un-installed the whole thing and re-installed just the DX version and then it never found any Amplitube.dll's. When I search the Amplitube folders all the file types are .amps, I didn;t see any .dll's. Whats going on?

I'll bet you the options it gave you were VST and DXi, which is different from DX...and even more confusingly, selecting the DXi option can make the plugin invisible to CEP, lol... (it's a bug I ran into).

Here's what you do. If you have installed the VST wrapper, then it should be listed under EFFECTS--->DX EFFECTS --->VST WRAPPER.

If it's not there, you need to reinstall it and do the refresh effects thing...but if it's there, it should look like the pic I'm attaching.

Now, if you know where your amplitube dll file is, then select the Amplitube ".dll" file as shown in the pic to open amplitube.

If EITHER the VST wrapper or the Amplitube dll isn't there, then install it and then select "refresh effects" after you install it.

Personally, when I install a new VST plug, I install it into a global VST folder on my harddrive so I don't have to go hunting all over my hard drive for the dll files when I want to change plugs. That's why there are several "dll" files in my pic.

If I were you, I'd totally uninstall Amplitube, reinstall it selecting ONLY the VST option, and make sure you know where on your hard drive you're installing it.

Let us know how it works out.

Oh, and I only use Amplitube after the fact...I don't run it in real time...I'm not sure if you can or not...but it seems like latency would be a big issue unless you had one SCREAMING fast machine.

Here is my problem when installing Amplitube:

And then since it gives me that error it creats the VST plug in folder but when I refresh the effects list CEP has a pop-up window looking for VST .dll's. When I direct it to the VST Plug in folder there are none to be found.

And this shows there are no DLL's in the VST plug in folder. When I look in Amplitube settings folder those 4 sub folders are also without DLL's. Like I said in my original post, when I search those subfolders with Windows Explorer looking for DLL's I only find .amps file types. What gives?

Also in the effects list I notice that under Effects/Direct X that the VST-DX wrapper is listed but greyed out. Could this be causing Amplitube not to be able to "see" the dll's that are supposed to be there? Why would the VST/DX wrapper be greyed out? This is all a mystery to me.

I dunno, man...sounds like your amplitube exe file is missing something. I assume if you run the search for "amplitube," it doesn't bring back any returns for "amplitube.dll," right?

As for the last question, the reason that wrapper is grayed out is because you don't have any audio selected. You have to highlight part of a music file, THEN go to effects, DX, VST wrapper.

Anyway, that install doesn't look like a DXi install...have you tried installing JUST the "DX" version of Amplitube to see if it shows up then?

I've tried every version, Im running out of ideas here... This isn't supposed to be this complicated for everybody is it?
