Will a soundcard in my range work with this?

I have one of these, and I want to know if I can connect it successfully to a soundcard in the 200-300 dollar price range. To my knowledge, one must run a wire from each channel to the soundcard, is this true? If so, it seems like (on most soundcards), they would only hold 4 or so channel inputs. What's the deal here?

That Spirit board he's talking about has:

20 inputs as standard
18 outputs including aux and direct outputs
12 mono channels with high quality UltraMic™ pre-amps
4 stereo inputs
4-bus architecture, with sub-group routable to mix
Direct outputs can be switched globally pre- or post-fade
Inserts on all mono channels
3-bands 'British' EQ with swept mid-band
Stereo 18dB/octave 100Hz high-pass filter to cut stage rumble
+48V phantom power
Channel On switch for mute control
Two sub-group outputs
Separate mono sum output
Impedance balanced outputs
Rugged aluminium chassis with integral carry handle
Excellent protection against RF emissions
