hi everyone...

im having second thoughts about the Firebox from Presonus i had decided to get (my doubts are on the pres capability versus outboard, simple ones - ive been told again and again that outboard is really a lot better when it comes to this kind of pre) and just want to understand wether or not the souncard route can give me what i need...

i need to hook up a DMP3 to it (so thats two ins) and also another pre (probably the new Electro Harmonix tube pre) so thats one more in.

i would also like the capability to hook up an outboard fx processor, something like a tc m300 or a lex mpx100, something like that to it....

im looking at the Maudio stuff for this, thats more or less my price range...

also, a pci card is only possible on destops right? theres just no way to put this into a laptop is it?

last thing...when using these pci cards, where do you guys hook up the headphones?

tanx in advance to everyone.

Elmo,

tanx!
do u have any kind of fx processor hooked up to it?
how do u use it? into spdif or into one of the analog ins..

i really need to understand how am i gonna do this.

tanx!

ok well i myself dont but i can tell you how to...you would plug your three pres into three ins on the 66. if your tracking with the effects you would just go through the proccesor after the pre and before the card. if your adding effects during post-production and mixing then you hook the effects processor's in' to the outs of the soundcard. and then the outs of the effets to the ins of the soundcard

aahhh!!
so thats how its done! :D

tanx Elmo, i really needed to know that! many tanx!

yup anytime...also remember to turn-off input monitoring when you are mixing with the outboard stuff because it might give you a feedback loop problem

Elmo,

tanx again. one more thing if u can, how do u monitor the stuff you're recording? be it on monitors or headphones....through the analog outs?

i dont know your sequencer but you can go to the help part of the sequencer and type 'input monitor(ing)' this will tell you which icon you can press to do this...you just need you input monitoring on when tracking and then turn it off when mixing with your outboard fx.
