Why Unwanted Audio Hiss When Recording?
:cool:Why am I getting hiss when recording my classical guitar? I am recording through a Sterling Audio ST51 to the Tascam DP004 digital 4 track. I am running through a Phantom Power box, but I am only getting about a half bar of audio signal at the Tascam. This is placing the mic about 2 inches from the soundhole. I am recording in my living room. Any suggestions to boost signal or am I making any obvious errors?

Have you checked for snakes in the motherf***ing chain? :laughings::laughings::laughings:

ok sorry...

see if any wires carrying ac current(power cords) are next to any of your audio cables or anything your audio is running through

Yeah, from what I understand, TASCAM has been having a lot of quality control issues, especially with the XLR inputs.

The DP-004 does not have any XLR inputs.

Also please explain the statement about XLR issues and Tascam? What problems and which products?

Alan.

OMG, it would appear that I've been drinking too much coffee. For some reason I was reading Lexicon and not TASCAM. I have never heard of anyone having issues with Tascam equipment. Sorry about that :x

As a fellow coffee drinker I understand completely. All is forgiven:D

Alan.

Yeah, I've been up for just over 24 hours straight. I have to go in for blood work tomorrow, pretty sure they will be drawing coffee instead of blood from my system.
