Build your rig to suit your tone "goal". How you get there is of no consequence. nuff said.

i am just trying to satisfy my curiosity not start a holly war

It is Christmas you know. Should be lots of Holly around. Not to jack this thread, but... what the hell is holly anyways? "deck the hall with bows of Holly??" is it a plant ??? and are you supose to throw it at people when your in a holly war? :D

Sorry I couldnt resist.

I like my Tube amp. It it the best sound ever. I personally think it cannot be topped by anything out on the market. I get multiple gain stages with the roll of my volume knob. From all out metal to a classic rock roar, to a mild bluesy gain with just enough breakup to make Clapton drool. The amp alone makes whatever guitar im playing sound like that guitar. If I use p-90's it sounds like it is suppose to, if i play a strat it sounds like a strat, if i use humbucker guitar it chunks out with the best of them. You just dont get that type of tone that will sit in a live mix really well with out a good all tube amp.

Hughs and Kettner Edition Tube 20th anniversary 1x12 combo. I use two of them in stereo. They are only 20watts a peice. tone of the gods im telling you. Best amp on the market for the price. Right around $600 new. One of them is as loud as most half stacks. Two of them is just way better than i can imagine.

But hey its all personal taste. I think their the best.

Its like a mini pro rig. Small, but completely PRO sound and quality.

Merry Christmas.

As several people said ...... use what works for you.
The fact is, different things work very differently for different players ..... an easy example would be do you use Fender strat type gits or humbucker LP type gits.
I don't think anyone would say that one is good and the other sucks .... just different ..... but I know GOOD players that burn on one but can't stand the other. I don't care for strats myself ..... even the strat I made has EMG 'buckers in it. Whereas my best friend is strictly a strat single coil guy and won't even play a paul if that's all that's available. He'd rather just not sit in at all.

So the same applies to this question. Many people think modelers when they think of rack rigs but, of course, you can get tube power amps ..... tube preamps and so on. So in that case, you're really not talking about rack versus combo ..... you're actually simply talking about 1 guitar amp versus another guitar amp ...... the fact that one is in a rack and the other is in a combo is pretty meaningless ...... it's just a matter of the type cabinetry they're in.

Personally ..... when I see people play or hire them to play any of my gigs I don't even so much as notice what they play thru ...... if they play good they play good ...... if they don't ...... then they suck.
Their rig is of zero importance.

I want to be able to cover as much ground as possible.

So I use either or both, as long as it gets me to the finish line with the right sound.

I read all of these posts and it seems like alot of people are trying to get tone out of an amp head. Why? there are so many products from pedals to preamps and fx processors to plugins. Why is it that everyone is so intent to buy these outrageous over priced "boutique" amps?
Personally I feel that they have never made a stock head thta was good. BTW I use all rack gear. (incase anyone was wondering) Ive tried Krank, Mesa, Marshall even bogner. Id rather have the flexibility of my power-amp, pre-amp, rig.
I just was wondering why?

P.s. I know that the amp purists are goona flip over this so please i am just trying to satisfy my curiosity not start a holly war

Maybe they are just plain crazy. Amps went out in the 90s man.
