Why no chatter about the Shure LDC's?

I've been looking at spec sheets, etc for my first large-diaphragm condenser. Consider the usual suspects, AT2035, MXL, Rode NT1-A. I notice there is almost no mention around here (or The Gear Page) of the Shure PG27, PG42, and SM27. Why?

My first thought is they seem to be about $50 more expensive than the competition, once you match up the features.

Has anybody tried then or better yet, compared them to others in the same prices ranges?

Am really liking all of my Shure KSM series microphones.
I have them all but the KSM313 ribbon.

My favorites being the LDC 44 and the SDC 141.
You can find these and other KSM's used all day long on ebay. :thumbs up:

I was thinking more about the low end... the SM27, PG42, and PG27. Not gonna be any $500+ mics in my "studio" anytime soon.

The KSM32 got off ebay for $330 plus shipping and te KSM27 $159 plus shipping. Checkout GC Used online, they have both these listed. I recently regret not picking up another KSM32 that was on Craigslist for $300.

I don't know if the newer models SM27, PG42, and PG27 are the same or not as the KSM series. Likely some corners cut, but probably still decent mics.

Hi, just joined the forum.
I have a KSM27 and like it -- although I don't really have anything to compare it to except non-condenser stage mics. I looked at Ebay and they are listed as high as $220 or so. From what you said, though, sounds like it's worth going for an unheard used one?

Thanks and take care,
Bruce

Ps. haven't checked out that "GC used" but I will immediately.

I have a Rode Classic II tube, A U87, a Blue Kiwi and I can tell you a KSM27 does a fine job. I'll grab it before a TLM103 any day. If you can get a used one for the prices mentioned on here its a deal!!!!

I have both a KSM32 and KSM44 and like both for different reasons. The 32 is extremely neutral or flat and some people find it boring and that is why I like it! The 44 sounds similar below 3K and has a hyped top end that can sound great on vocals depending on the singer. The 44 is not a good choice if it is your only mic, but if you are looking for a second or third color it is great.

I've always found the KSM to be very good. Ronan Chris Murphy made a video love story about it he likes it so much. I'd post it but I have to wait to reach 10 posts before I can :(
