why is this a bad recording?

I recorded this today. For the guitar I used 2 MXL 603s
s into an M-audio DMP3, into an M-audio delta 1010, into adobe audition.

The organ(bass tones) was miced with a 57, into DMP3, into delta 1010, adobe.

I know it sounds horrible, I'm just not sure why. There is a lot of hiss in the two guitar tracks, though a good amount of the hiss went away once it was compressed into mp3. I did hiss reduction in adobe audition, but that just sent the tracks to hell.

My room is small and untreated.

I want to know if the problem is A) my room (comb filtering, low frequency build up, etc.)
B) my equipment
C) micing technique

click here to download the recording.

maybe it is all three? I dunno.
If you would let me know what it sounds like to you, I would appreciate it.

peace.

Mayte,
For me there's a prob with your link.
It takes me to a page I have to wait 60 sec at & then Nothing. The file can't be selected & no auto stream etc happens.
Perhaps you need to leave instructions.
Cheers

same here.

why don't you register with soundclick?

Doesn't sound terrible. Sounds a tad boomy and the volume fluctuates a bit. It really ends up being what the mix is going to sound like. Is this going to be with drums? With vocals over it? Then you can flesh out how you want it to sound alltogether.

However, I never record acoustic guitars, so I may be totally wrong. Haha.

It sounds like the guitar is moving in and out of pich.

Some background noise when it first gets started....say 5 seconds...then again at around :50, like a phasey thing....It takes away my focus from the playing. And some high pitch whine at the end....
The playing itself is very good but the tone is not great (sorry just my .02). There is some lower mid ? resonating going on and the strings sound flabby. Tim Lawler's feedback would be helpful here I think...he's an expert at the acoustic recording stuff.
But overall I really like the arrangement and the playing. All you need to do is touch up the recording and this will shine......

Not too bad. Guitar just needs some EQ help, on the edge, and between 250-500Hz

Handy noise trick: Set an open mic in the middle of your room; record the ambient room sound for about 30 seconds. Use the noise reducer tool and get a profile on the sound. Save it as "My Room" or something, and apply that filter to everything you record with an open mic; it will cancel out the room noise, hum, computer fans, etc. It's aggressive, so pull down the amount of filter it does on the highs a bit.
