Hi,

In a word "practicality"! For someone just getting into computer recording it's a way to get your feet wet without a major financial outlay in the beginning.

I've been using Ntrack for about two years. It does all I need and so far I've seen no reason to switch.

Good Luck!

My question would then be, "popular with who??"

It certainly doesn't get much "pro" attention!

Blue Bear Sound,

Well if the number of pro studios going belly up in my area (Austin) is an indication, the term "pro" is being redefined as we speak. If you think I'm gonna spend big bucks in a "pro" studio on what usually adds up as nothing more than pre production work.... well I'd rather spend it on my home system.

A handfull of bigtime studios turn out the money making stuff and an artist is going to make chump change until he/she get's booked with the big time producer in the big time studio on a bigtime label. I'm just doing my little part to change that mindset.

Yes pro tools is the standard and it is nice when one can walk into a "pro" studio and just plug it in. I may eventually go that way myself.

ACCESSIBILITY TO THE MASSES!

It's going to redefine the whole business and none too soon for me!

Of course I will bow to your expertise as I have read many of your posts and have often taken your advice.

Sorry Rusty, i was answering subtractor, not slamming your answer to him!

I re-edited my post for clarity...

I guess what I was getting at was the reason behind subtractor's question!

N-Tracks may be popular, but only in the consumer crowd.... it certainly doesn't get any notice in the majors or even the minors!

damn, i thought this was HOMErecording.com.......

Bruce, do you have a question about N-Track or did you just come here to be a dick?.....

Blue Bear Sound,

And I wasn't trying to pick a fight. I think we are talking from two different perspectives. You the accomplished studio tech and me the player/writer.

With Ntrack I'm able to get results comparable to sessions in pro studios and I've been able to "control" the whole process. In fact it's much better because I can take the time to experiment and rewrite without worrying about my budget. You may never hear my mixes on the radio but I gurantee they are good enough for demo purposes and that's all I've ever gotten from the "pro" studios I've recorded in.

If I ever planned on becoming a professional engineer I might move in another direction just so I would be able to "talk the talk" with my competion.

Now Gidge,

Let's not piss off the pro's. I'm very thankful that they show up here to help us "homies" out and I want them to continue to hang around.:D
