I think you just invented global sexual fantasy terrorism!!
(With one simple statement you've managed to send a frightening black cloud over the minds of about 1/3 of earth's male population.....Sweet!)

wow this thread is still going.
well i dug out some of my old music today and had a listen, and then i listened to some of the new stuff that is labeled metal.
tell ya what nothing compared to death angel imho for true agonizing brutal hammering it was tits.
i also listend to some nuclear assault, sacred reich and a very good christian metal band called believer. its seems like nowdays you almost have to dig into the christian scene to find some of the better metal of today, i listen to living sacrafice on a regular basis and these guys are brutal, rocky grey the guitarist for living sacrafice has his own project going called soul embraced which was realy good also, rocky grey also decided he needed to make some money after being in the music scene for 20+years and joined evan essence as there drummer. somtimes i feel like he sold out of true metal with this move but ya know what im sure he is making a shitload of money from this, with todays music i try and only listen to prog metal, stuff like in flames nevermore, night wish, crimeny(early 90s stuff)dallis dilema also 90s i think,of course dream theatre, and i just gott this new cd from a band called andromeda which is like super technical even beyond dream theatre. im starting to become a fan of epic metal bands like kamelot, rhapsody, gammaray, artension. i just like some of the groovy dark sounds and changes it has to offer. but in all im still a old school metal head because i always find myself listening to the old stuff again.if you have read all this and made it this far i strongly encourage you to check out living sacrafice, they covered every style of metal there is with a different style on each album, and a must have for everyones collection is the first believer they rock. tim

*I think I'd better preface this post with a "It's my opinion , take it or leave it..No hard feelings." disclaimer.

Is metal dead? I don't know! (Maybe who cares or knows fuck it of course it might be never it is, but then again maybe I'm sure I doubt it, but then again certainly it's hard to tell.) Happy? (Fuck me I didn't think so...oh well.)

What IS Alive are trends. The old guys here know it, see it and sigh at the rehashed predictabilty of it. Why do trends re-emerge? Got me, but I've seen ties go wide to thin to wide to thin to wide again. I've seen chicks that were hot with long hair, then short hair ,then long hair again. I've watched games shows come, go and come back again. Are Trends the result of bordom on a international level? Fuck if I know, but they exsist in various areas of our culture and they aren't going away!
In film they've been pretty much re-doing the same few story lines since before Shakespere. In fashion we've been reinventing the same old way to keep our balls covered and warm since the fig leaf speedo. In recent musical history every generation seems to have an Arthur Brown. (60's I don't know who it was- Alice Cooper-Kiss-King Diamond-Marlyn Manson...Who's the new freak? Doesn't matter, different costume, same trend appeal.)

It wasn't hard to see where music was going mid to post grunge... (The people that invent trends know it and actually plant the seeds of future trends..They have to, it's what they do for a living!)
Think about the 90's... Grunge, hip hop and mainstream rap set up shop, the industry decides we need acoustic guitars again so we go unpluged...oh crap, little girls in the major maket don't relate well (spend money)... It's cool, we'll give'em Alanis, Jewel and Sheryl...That'll distract'em. But wait, we need pop rock! Okay, here's Bare Naked Ladies and Smashmouth..Whew that was close! >TIME PASSES> What happens? The seeds grow that's what. Little girls are teens listening to Jewel on the same station their mom is hearing at work, Dad's watching Espn and singing "Hey now, you're a rockstar, get your game on go play..",
Ten year olds suddenly understand "4o's" and "Nines" and "Bitchez: and "Gettin' Paid" 'cus they hear their dads rap.

It's NOT a coincidence that boy bands came to drive a dance wedge between mothers and daughters and when moms began to like the harmonies the industry told girls to listen to and dress like the slut singers.( Britney), If mom, the school and the church freak out about how their daughters are dressed, then the daughter is gonna want more...BUY MORE! Oh good heavens! Sons and dads CAN NOT listen to the same rock! It's in the bible! "No dad, I'm not a rock star, get YOUR game on and go fuck yourself!"
Sons have to be pissed at their dads and at the system...
It's the fundementals of Teen angst... It IS Rock and Roll!
Coincidence pop punk came back into trend??? NOPE.

OK SO BIG FUCKING DEAL RIGHT???

I agree, BUT do you agree that it's pretty easy to put on MTV and kind of hear 80's power ballads with less hair spray, more piercings, DW drums and PRS guitars??

It's easy to see that shredders are either back in next or displaced as is what we remember as metal...BUT, for how long?
When the ballads are done most likely metal is back in...
If metal needs some sparkle, then shred is back.

(Don't sell your acoustic yet 'cus unplugged is about 2 years away....AGAIN!)
