I might be an idiot, so bear with me,

I just recently purchased a M-Audio Mobilepre USB Interface. I hooked it up to my laptop, installedn the latest driver and it all seems to work.

I use Ableton Live four as my software, and i use the M-Audio Box to record drums (drum machine), bass, and guitars,

However, when i am monitoring AND recording, It only records on one Side. Example:

If I have my drum machine plugged into Ch.1, i arm the clip in ableton, and then I select record, and play in ableton, THEN i hit play on the drum machine, However, I only hear audio out of the left speaker in my head phones, naturally i thought it was just because a lot of times you only monitor out of one speaker, but when i played back the recording, it still only plays out of the left speaker.

Now if I do the same thing, but plug it into Ch.2, it only plays/records to the right,

Why is it doing this, How do i correct it?

Is the only way to...

Is the only way to record in stereo to be plugged into both channels?

The inputs on the mobilepre are MONO inputs. They will each record a mono signal to either the Left (Channel 1) or Right (Channel 2). To record in stereo (assuming your drum machine has a stereo output), you'll need to get an appropriate cable to split the left and right channels coming out of the drum machine to the appropriate inputs on the mobilepre.

If you are recording a mono signal and want it to play back in both speakers, you need to make sure you have "mono" selected in the mobilepre software mixer and in your recording software.

Set your input to either 1 mono left or 2 mono right.... you're input is recording stereo to one track so if you are using input 1 it is left and if you are using input 2 it is right.
