Why have multiple guitars?

How long does it usually take to choose between your 325 different combinations for electric guitar? :p

TOO LONG. I basically use the SAME guitar and amp to record with. The rest are just there to fill space in the studio.;)

We build an intimate relationship with our instruments. We know how to make them sing, growl, scream, and moan. We know how they feel - the shape of the neck in our hand, the feel of the body pressed against ours or resting lightly on our thigh. We know the smell of the paint. We know where all the chips, dings, and scratches are - and maybe even have a story to go with a few of those "beauty marks".

Where else can you have such an intimate relationship with multiple partners?

Lovingly,

Currently in 13 intimate relationships, and always prowling for more.

Absolutely right. "But honey, it's not mine, it's for the kids." I have 2 girls and both have guitars now. :D

My son has three (2 basses & an electric) and hasn't played in 3 years! I wish he did, but he's a great kid with tons of interests--so I'm not pushing anything.

In the meantime, I'll take real good care of "his" guitars...

:D

Tone, Tone, Tone!!

I can't get the same jazz vibe from my Stratocaster that I can get from my Gibson ES 175 or ES 135. I can't sound like Jimmy or Stevie with the Gibsons (of course, I can't sound like them even with the Strat). This thread is cracking me up...I get the same crap from my wife, "why do you have so many guitars...you need to get rid of some". To which I respond, "and we need to get divorced!" Well, not really, but I'm still trying to explain the whole different guitars, different tones thing...

Coz theres nothing better then working out 4 part harmonies when your mates come over!! :D

It depends on the mood I'm in. If I feel relaxed, I love to sit down with my acoustic. If I'm in a "Thrash mood," I'll break out the Mockingbird. If I'm feeling "artistic," out comes the Telecaster.
