Hi,
OK I'm a newbie. WHY does everyone seem to recommend EXTERANL (FireWire) drives.

Isn't is the speed of the drive that matters? So if I get an internal 7200 RPM drive that's dedicated strictly to recording, won't I be ok?

I know how fast FireWire is.... but that doesn't matter, the 'slowest' link in the chain is the drive speed,

(Running 1.8 GHz P4 XP, 512 RAM)

(Using Samplitude 6.x)

Thanks In Advance

I used to think that it was, and it probably was back when all the drives were slow, but nowadays, CPU is usually the weakest link in the chain given all the realtime plugins we use.

Unless you're going to be working with a laptop or a portable/remote setup of some sort, I would stick with internal drives. They're cheaper and more reliable.

You can go with one or two 'internals' but in removable trays. Very handy that way.
