I have an akg d5 microphone and i went to use it for the first time last night. When i tried to plug it in it did not work, but the older crappy microphone that we had did. Can anyone give me an idea as to why it didnt work?

what are you plugging it in to? what kind of cable u using?

Could be the flux capacitor. Are you giving it the required 1.21 gigawatts and traveling at 88 miles per hour (141.6 km/h)?

Goodbye Jon. :(

Does it require phantom power? Is it getting it?

Its an AKG D5, it doesnt require phantom power, its a dynamic.

Presumably it is not a D5S with the switch. The logical conclusion would be a broken wire internally. Best solution is to take it back and get one that works

Nah! It's gotta be the Flux Capacitor. What else could it be?

Goodbye Jon. :(

If you know the cable works and you're not using some sort of adapter...

The AKG D5 is a pretty simple design really. If you carefully unscrew the capsule, you'll find a red and a blue wire leading from the capsule down through the body. Check that the solder connections at the capsule are intact. At the other end of the mic, you'll find a screw holding in the XLR insert. Remove the screw, and carefully pull the insert out just enough to check the solder connections at that end. Red and blue wires should be connected to pins 2 and 3 of the XLR and a ground wire connected to pin 1. If these are all ok, and you have ruled out external factors, you may have a bad capsule.

Some of the other guys recommended checking the oil or the dilithium crystals, but I think that is only necessary on the import version of the D5. (I've been told that Klingon versions usually have a "K" suffix in the serial number )

The service doc on this page should help. D 5/D 5 S

Before you take it apart however, if it's new and under warranty, just return it for a new one as one of the other guys suggested.

Oh, I had that problem once, but then I fixed it.
