why does pitch correction with melodyne change the original voice?

After i corrected a voice track pitch with melodyne i found that the voice has been changed into a super suprano. Does anybody tell what to do?
 
How far did you move the note? You can only move it so far up or down before it starts sounding like mickeyouse or darth vader.

If you didnt move it that much, check out the formant controls. You might be telling the program to turn it into a woman.
 
Also check the sample rate of your original file versus the sample rate that Melodyne is working in. If there's a mismatch and you load a file with a different sample rate into your project, you can get the Mickey Mouse or Darth Vader thing as well.
 
Sometimes if a pitch corrector can't interpret the signal well enough you can get octave jumps
