Why aren't vintage Fender Mustangs worth anything?

I have to admit I wanted one after seeing Kurt Cobain use one, they do look pretty cool, but when I learned that they're a shorter scale that turned me away from them, I personally like 25.5' best, even 24.75' seems kind of short.
Gibsons are 24 3/4"... most Mustangs are 24".

It makes stretches easier however. :)

am i the only one that loves mustangs cause of Blixa Bargeld?

i think the vintage white model is one of the most beatiful guitars ever made. a banged mustang is the vibiest guitar ever! im gonna get one as soon as i finish paying off my sunburst jazzmaster.

of course its a "bad" guitar in technical terms and materials, its a learning guitar, it was its purpose when it came out...just like a bronco bass, or those 10 fret strats.

but its not a bad guitar in terms of sound...even with stock pups..whomever's thinking that, is not using it the right way...the sound you need to take out of it is refined cleans or clear and defined distortion. oh, and play it through a twin.

I had a Musicmaster Bass.It played easy but the short scale sucks when you play up high on the neck. It's always out of tune.I sold mine and got a long scale Ibanez thats much better.Mustangs pretty much suck too.Like squier before there was squier.

Back in the late 60s I played in a country band, the bass player had a mustang which I played quite often. I liked the short scale length (I've got sort of square hands) hated the candy apple red paint job. At the time I thought it was a pretty cool guitar and it did all right for the type of music we were doing. Any way 35+ years since then and I've become a little more discerning. I think the guy still has it, bet it hasn't been out of the case in 15 or more years.

to me, Mustangs have a very cheap feel and really don't play that well. aside from that, they do have a pretty unique sound to my ears, which i do like.

i am also pretty fond of the Jagstang. it also plays and feels like a cheapo guitar, more so than a mustang, but i do like it quite a bit, especially for clean sounds.

both guitars have just a bit of a different flavor than a strat, which is my all time favorite guitar. but, i think if i owned a jagstang, i would grow very fond of it.

i have never had the opportunity to play a Jaguar.

as was mentioned earlier the jag and the jazzmasters where made to a higher cost and quality...these where the flagship products over even the strat. So the fact that the mustang is a half to a third the price of these is probably not too suprising. The strat is still riding the hendrix/clapton wave.

The mustang and musicmaster are entry level student market guitars.

Having said that Sonic Youth seem to love the mustang!!!!!!!
