can anyone explain why (and tell me how to fix) any songs I extract in Cool Edit are so quiet???

they are real low volume and when I normailise it there will often be hissing - effecting ruining any hope I had of sampling from the track

I'm using an Audiophile 2496 soundcard...

thanks!

hey manning1

the signal is coming straight from my computers cd drive

I'm not sure what my fader settings in Cool are  I think I'm about to learn something - do you mind explaining it to me?

thanks!

i'm confused. so your not trying to record songs using cool ?
what are you trying to do then ?
convert songs on a cd to wave ? asnd import into cool ?
tell me what your trying to do please. and i'll suggest.

yeah, I'm trying to sample stuff from Audio tracks on cd. I find when I open the song into Cool Edit it's quite quiet

thanks for any help

so - your doing a cd audio to wave conversion in cool . am i right ?
ok. in the waveform view on the track - a question. is the waveform very teeny , or nice and broad - so it fills the panel more or less top to bottom ?
get back to me. what are these on cd ? songs ? samples ?
are they cd's you made / (might have made the cd wrong) OR are they commercial song or sample CD's.??

Download a program called CDex, it's a free CD audio extraction program, although I forget where to download it from. Just search for it on Google.
