I like to record layered synthesizer parts so I am thinking about buying a small mixer so I can submix down to one or two tracks. My question is will I be adding extra noise ? I assume I would go out of the submixer using the main outs. I was thinking along the lines of a Mackie 1202VLZ.

I doubt you would add any audible noise unless you crank the levels and eq. You would, obviously be raising the noise floor slightly, but you should be fine. ;)

Any added curcitry will add some noise.
Why not layer them inside the synth?

I'm talking about layering two different synths. I could just layer two sounds in the same keyboard but sometimes you can get rich, full, interesting sounds if they come from two different keyboards....and two different technologies like analog and sample playback synthesizers.
