This is one of my long term goals.Just wondering if anyone here has done it and if so could you talk a bit about everything that goes into it?
I am thinking about buying a panel truck for this purpose.I am not
going to try to build it over night, rather very slowly over the next few years.
I am curious about supplying power to it in the field. What I mean is,if I go to some bands warehouse to record them live and they dont have adequate power, what is the solution?

The solution would be a RV style generator sucking fuel from the tank, or possibly running on propane, both work well. There are all sorts of special mountings involved so you can have your generator run all night, while you sleep in your RV. I bet that would be a good thing to investigate for a roadworthy studio, simply because all the bits and pieces you need are probably over-the-shelf items.

Not sure how to handle soundproofing, I imagine in a vehicle you'd just need a lot more of it.

Not sure what a panel van is - unless its like those airport vans without the windows. If thats the case, make sure you install a rollbar and tie the equipment down very well, just in case, you won't lose all your gear. The roll bar can be part of the structure that you mount all the gear too.

Hope that helps!

You might want to check out the Remote Possibilities (I think that's the name) forum over at

This forum is all about mobile studios and remote recording.

Talk to Sonusman. He used to have a mobile rig in an old Winnebago. Had a Ghost in it, IIRC.
