Hello guys, my name is Jay Rock and i have been rapping and doing music production for 6 now. Over the years, i had to get familiar with mixing due to the fact that i didnt have anyone else to do it for me. Well, it has gotten to the point where i would much rather have someone else mix and master my tracks, becuz i would prefer to just make beats and rap. can anyone on here tell me places through the net where i can send my tracks to get mixed, mastered, or both, and would send me into bankruptcy? i know a lot of you guys on hee is pretty good with this stuff, so any offers would be appreciated. I am not a novice to mixing myself, i just would want someone else to do it, due to time contraints of doing everything on my own. Here is a song i mixed and mastered. tell me what u guys think. do i suck? or should i just mix and allow someone else to master the tracks. damn i am so frustrated. Thanx guys.

Sounds reasonably above amateur hip-hop par to me... Not pro (i.e. Dre or Clue), mind you, but good... Unless you really got a deal, you'd probably not get much better than this without having connex at a mastering house...

My opinion is to keep with the research and practice.. Keep it in house until you can afford to pay the pros.... (It's what I'm doing too...) :)

Have a good one...

TBH mate it doesn't sound bad at all and without payin out major change, you wont get much better than what you've already done yourself.

But here's a few pointers... Try n maximise the length of the track, get it to about 3.50mins without that big instrumental bit that fades out over a period of about 45seconds. The talking thats in the background also fades so i would suggest perhaps placing this in the mix so that when the talking finishes the track either cuts pretty dead mid beat or perhaps it fades with the track.
Keep the fades short also, felt like the song was moving away from me at the end.
Perhaps drop in another verse or summut to build it up or maybe a bit more singing from the female talent on there.

As someone already said, thats pretty much above the standard of the shit i've heard throughout the years and if you weren't signed then i would be pretty shocked as it's got a pretty good feelin to the track.

I think the biggest part for me was the problem with the fade in all seriousness, one of the only songs i can think of at this moment in time that lends itself to being a long track with plenty of instrumental parts towards the end is will smiths classic "Summertime" i know it's a bit of a cheese track due to all the airplay it got and the chart action but its still one of those songs that you can bob ur head to and think of summer hols n sexeh chicks.

I'd stick to mixing them urself and perhaps posting up for tips rather than gettin someone else to do it m8...thats my moneys worth anyhows.

I agree, it sound pretty good, maybe not as dynamic as it could be, but I've heard worse on the vid channels.
