Which Soundcard

I have a friend who is using Logic Audio and needs to get a soundcard!!This souncard must have optical I/O and god Asio Drivers!!

Problem-his budget is about $300

Any ideas??

For optical I/O....and a card that works well with Logic...Look into the RME cards.

The C-Port has optical ins, plus 8 analog in/outs. It's closer to $400 though.

I just bought a Terratec 6Fire 24/96 and am happy so far. In addition to your basic 1/8-inch rear ports, it has a front-panel module the size of a CD drive with:

RCA jacks
-CD, tape & phono in

1/4-inch jacks
-headphones with volume knob
-mic in with gain knob

Digital jacks
- coaxial in & out
- optical in & out

MIDI jacks
- in & out

It's $249 and works with both ASIO & the new Windows driver as well. It's a PCI interface soundcard. Review on Tom's Hardware explains why it is much better for music-making than the SB Audigy 2.

Sound Advice

I have a Terratec EWX 24/96, optical i/o, analogue i/o & S/PDIF.

Cruise on over to www.terratec.net where they list the specs and software bundled with the EWX and the DMX 6Fire. If you're in the US there is a US-based web page but I don't know the URL. A quick Google and you should be right.

US tech support will doubtless be a lot better than the German support.
