Which Soundcard

Newbie here,
starting to seriously look at getting into the digital recording domain (been doing analog for what seems like forever!), and while doing the 'due diligence' research, noticed the WDM issues with the Delta cards posted in this group.

I'm looking into the 44, 66 or 1010 as possibles and would like to stay around the $500 mark if possible. I'm running XP-Pro, on a 1.5Ghz P4 with 40 Gig HD, without outboard Mackie 1202VLZ + some other stuff. Would like to go with 4 in/out - 8 is too big and I don't want to add a patch bay too...

So... [not wanting to open the proverbial pandora's box] the million dollar question !! What do you guys - the 'pros' -recommend as the card to go with ??

In your case the 44 should be a sufficient start. Delta makes good cards for the money. I can vouche for it.
 
44 is great, look on EBAY for a used one, you'll get almost half off - then spend the remaining cash on decent mic pre's and mics. thats what i did at least...ha
